Caring For Your Hot Tub Cover

Caring For Your Hot Tub Cover

Hot tub and spa covers are designed for a specific purpose and use. They are not designed to be tear, rip or abuse-proof. Take care when handling and using the cover to maintain function and durability. These instructions are provided to help you look after your cover so that it lasts you for many years. Damage caused because you did not follow our instructions will not be covered under warranty.

CAUTION: AVOID DROWNING RISK Failure to follow all instructions may result in injury or drowning

  1. STAY OFF cover. Do not walk, sit, lean, or lay or permit any heavy weight to rest on cover.
  2. NEVER leave an uncovered Hot Tub or spa unattended.
  3. NEVER leave a covered Hot Tub or spa unlocked. Keep children away – objects or children cannot be seen under the cover.
  4. ALWAYS remove cover completely before bathers enter – entrapment risk.
  5. REMOVE standing water – a child can drown on top of cover.
  6. CHECK cover regularly for premature deterioration or damage.
COVER CARE
  1. Do not lift the cover without unfastening all locking straps.
  2. Do not lift the cover using the handles or skirt
  3. Fading and discolouration will occur naturally with extended exposure to the sun.
  4. Keep the cover clean. As often as is necessary wash with mild soap and rinse with clean water. Clean the top and underside of the cover. NEVER use a jet wash / pressure washer.
  5. Do not use SOLVENTS, PETROLEUM PRODUCTS, ABRASIVE CLEANERS or STRONG DETERGENTS. All vinyl materials contain plasticisers which must be maintained in the material to prevent drying out, cracking, flaking and deterioration. These plasticisers migrate out and escape naturally through time. Sun and cold speed up this process. Applications of vinyl cleaner and conditioner (UV protectant such as 303 Aerospace) may slow down this type of deterioration.
  6. Do not use products that contain SILICONE or ALCOHOL CHEMICALS.
  7. The vinyl and thread are marine treated but will deteriorate when exposed to high levels of chlorine, bromine, ozone, or other active chemicals.
  8. At the time chemicals are added (especially during ‘spa-shock’ treatment and for 30 minutes afterwards), remove the cover completely and place it far enough away so splashing cannot inadvertently reach the cover.
  9. Chemicals should be added frequently at low levels instead of infrequently at high levels. The underside of the cover will become bleached and damaged in the case of overdosing chemicals or if the cover is not left fully open for 30 minutes after chemicals are added. We recommend the use of the Canadian Spa App. (available on Apple and Android) to guide you with correct water care.
  10. The sewing holes and thread are the greatest potential weakness in a cover. Vinyl is a soft leather- like material which the thread can cut if the cover is roughly handled. This is especially true when the cover has been exposed to hot sun. The handles, straps and hinge are double reinforced with thick vinyl coated rip-stop, however, mistreatment by sudden jerking motions can damage them. Stretching or pulling one half against the other may rip the cover at the thread holes. To prevent damage any handling of the cover should be done in a gentle manner.
  11. Do not allow reflective objects or materials on or near cover. Sun magnification can cause damage to your cover.
  12. When the cover is not on the spa, handle it carefully and take care not to drag or scrape it. Store it sensibly and safely to avoid damage and buckling. Using a cover lifting mechanism makes light work of removing and replacing the cover, and it also stores the cover correctly in the open position.
  13. Safety strap clips on your new cover might be in a different position than your old cover. This means you will need to reposition the clips on the spa. Position the straps so it is full extended, without stretching. Locate end of male fitting on strap and attach fastener over that location. This prevents wind from lifting cover off the spa.
  14. Approximately every 6 months, take the foam inserts out and turn them over so that the opposite side faces the water.
